Policy Counsel (Privacy, Security, Emerging Technology)

CCIA seeks a full-time privacy professional to support the Association’s policy advocacy. The Policy Counsel will be the organization’s primary resource for work that  includes analysis of law and policy pertaining to privacy, cybersecurity, national security, law enforcement, and emerging technology issues.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work collaboratively with CCIA’s DC and Brussels policy teams to achieve public policy goals on behalf of member companies.
  • Regular, in-person office attendance in accordance with our hybrid policy.
  • Act as spokesperson for the Association on the identified subject areas and promote policymaker awareness of member companies’ interests, priorities, and business models.
  • Anticipate challenges that technology companies may face in an evolving public policy landscape.
  • Manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, coalitions, outreach programs, and initiatives in concert with policy objectives.
  • Conduct research on cybersecurity, data privacy, and law enforcement access to data; understand the economic and regulatory policies associated with innovation in emerging technologies and how those changes will affect industry.
  • Draft written materials and collateral for internal and external use, to educate, inform and support CCIA’s policy positions, such as legal briefs, research and advocacy papers, reports, memoranda and summaries, and media communications pertaining to the identified subject areas.

Minimum Qualifications:Two to five years of experience in law, advocacy, or public policy pertaining to privacy, security, and emerging technology. Juris Doctor degree preferred. Applicants must also have demonstrated capacity for independent work, self-starter capacity, and a capability of meeting deadlines and satisfying time-sensitive requests.

The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Keen working understanding of the state and federal legislative and regulatory policy processes.
  • Familiarity with Internet technologies and the surrounding policy environments with a demonstrated ability to quickly get up to speed on complex technical and regulatory issues.
  • Ability to collaborate and exercise sound judgment in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent personal, political, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced communication skills, in person and in writing, with the ability to translate complex subject matter into simple explanations.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritize multiple projects with tight deadlines simultaneously.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
