Overview
GitHub is seeking a Senior Manager, Developer Policy to join its policy team within Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA). GitHub’s mission to support open-source software and global developer collaboration is central to fostering creativity, innovation, and technological transformation. Our policy team protects and promotes the interconnected developer community, enabling it to accelerate human progress through innovation.
As a key member of GitHub’s policy team, you will work across jurisdictions and address issues critical to developers worldwide. Responsibilities
Policy Strategy and Advocacy
Develop and execute GitHub’s global policy agenda, advocating for initiatives that foster open-source innovation and support the developer ecosystem.Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to advance strategic initiatives, crafting and delivering materials that address emerging regulatory challenges.Analyze complex policy landscapes, contributing insights to create impactful position papers, policy briefings, and advocacy strategies.Build and maintain cross-functional alignment on policy priorities, driving collaborative outcomes in dynamic regulatory and political environments.
Subject Matter Expertise
Provide expert guidance to internal teams on public policy and legislative trends, ensuring alignment with product development and business strategies.Demonstrate impact in key policy areas, such as open-source software, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, or developer tools, through effective advocacy or thought leadership.Translate complex technical and policy concepts for diverse audiences, including engineers, policymakers, and non-technical stakeholders.
External Relationships and Advocacy
Build and strengthen relationships with government policymakers, industry influencers, and academic partners to amplify GitHub’s voice in the policy space.Coordinate external engagements, including events, social media campaigns, and press opportunities, to advance GitHub’s priorities and champion the open-source community.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Experience:7+ years in Government Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Public Policy, or GovernmentOR Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field + 5 years of relevant experienceOR Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field + 3 years of relevant experienceOR Doctorate in Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field + 1 year of relevant experienceOR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven impact in technology policy roles, with a history of contributing to advocacy efforts or policy initiatives in areas such as open-source software, cybersecurity, or artificial intelligence.Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting regulatory processes, with the ability to align policy insights with strategic product and business goals.Exceptional problem-solving skills, demonstrating adaptability in navigating shifting policy landscapes and emerging challenges.Passion for technology policy, with hands-on experience in programming, open-source communities, data science, artificial intelligence, or developer tools like GitHub.Ability to effectively communicate complex technical and policy concepts to diverse audiences, including engineers, non-technical stakeholders, and policymakers.Preference for candidates in the Eastern time zone.
Compensation Range
The base salary range for this job is USD $96,400.00 – USD $255,700.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
